Company history
The company was founded more than twenty years ago based on the insight that knowledge in medicine can benefit from the use of simulation models based on physiological and pharmacological knowledge combined with relevant mathematics and physics.
The original name of the company MEDIQ Abraxas AB was changed in 2011 to Aplysia Medical AB due to a name mismatch with another recently established company.
Aplysia is a prominent member of the group of animals called seaslugs showing a marvellous variation in design and colour, making them favourites of scuba divers all over the world. Some other members of the family also populate the website to make it more visually attractive.
Aplysia was also a study object of the neuroscientist Eric Kandel who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 2000. His studies on the approximately 10 000 neurons in the Aplysia gives us perspectives on our own nervous system with 100 billion cells with 7000 connections each.
